Jack punched the wall and clenched his eyelids against the tears. Another failing grade. Another humiliation. Another reason for all his classmates to jeer at him because he couldn’t call his Avatar. They would graduate as Magisters, but not him.

He sighed and shook his bruised hand. It’s not like he wanted an Avatar like the headmaster’s, a towering Power of fog and fire. He just wanted…something. A Djinn maybe? Oh, a Djinn would be so cool!

“Yes! A Djinn!”, he shouted, his desire finally finding voice.

A slight, misty figure coalesced in his palm.

“I am here, Magister.”
